I recently came across this from the vestry minutes:
1827 List of subscribers and the amount raised for the purpose of purchasing an organ for the church: names and amounts give.
Organ purchased of Mr. James Firby of Chelsea. Costs of organ and associated installation works. £81 7s. 1d.
T.B. N. Baskerville, Lord of this Manor, promised to give five pounds towards the purchase of the organ and when called upon for the money forfeited his word and did not give anything.#
I wonder why?
Should have perhaps Hounded the Baskerville for the money 🙂
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
