Ogbourne Archaeological Dig 2017

Archaeological Dig 2017

Ogbourne St Andrew History Group

Cranfield University Forensic Institute (Shrivenham) are returning this year to try to extend our knowledge of the extent, nature and above all date of the buried complex in the field to the west of the church.  This year the area of interest will be the southern part of the field where geophysics indicates the presence of two buildings separated from the main complex.

The dig will form part of the Forensic Archaeology course and will involve students from the Institute as well as the local (and not so local!) community and history groups.

The dig dates are:  Monday May 22nd to Saturday May 27th   ( the student’s formal dig will finish Friday May 26th but see below “volunteers day” on the 27th )

Local volunteers will be welcome to join in from Tuesday May 23rd , to allow the students a day to get settled in, and we are hoping that Saturday May 27th will be an extra “volunteers day”.

Everyone is welcome to come along to either dig or simply view the dig progress.

Please look at the History Group website ( www.osahg.org.uk ) for further details of last year’s dig and information about the history surrounding this fascinating site.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible during the week.

Please pass this e-mail onto anyone that you feel might be interested in the dig.
